Best in Slot Gear Guide for Restoration Shaman

Welcome to our Gear and BiS Page for Restoration Shaman for Midnight. Check this page to learn everything you need to know about gearing a Restoration Shaman, including the BiS Gear from all sources, Raiding and Mythic+, information on the best Trinkets, Tier Sets, and much more.

In Midnight, all item levels were squished, which means the numbers on all items and their item level was massively reduced, allowing for all numbers to grow again throughout the expansion and future content without becoming too large to understand.

Upgrading gear in Midnight continues to use the Crest system which lets you increase the item level of gear along tracks that relate to where you obtained the item, which harder content dropping gear that can be upgraded to higher Item Levels. For more information, read up on our dedicated page on how the gearing system works and what has changed in the Midnight expansion.

OverallMythic+Raid

As usual, prioritize Leech / Avoidance pieces and the highest item level equipment you have, regardless of its secondary stat distribution.

The crafted items you should use depends on what loot you have, as it always better to craft on your weakest slots in order to get a massive item level bonus, but you will eventually want to have Arcanoweave Lining Icon Arcanoweave Lining crafted on the lowest stat budget items, wrist and cloak, as crafted items have a slightly lower maximum item level limit than looted items.

If you start with a weapon craft, use Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt Icon Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt on it until you can get two Arcanoweave Lining Icon Arcanoweave Lining items crafted.

FAQAre Two-Handed weapons viable?
While using a Shield is typically better due to the armor benefits, and certainly mandatory in PvP, in PvE you will rarely be taking damage that can be mitigated by armor. This makes using two-handed weapons completely viable, as long as they have high item level and good secondary stats, or a powerful unique effect.
FAQWhich Tier Set Pieces Do I Want?
For Midnight Season 1, Restoration Shamans want to try and prioritize getting the Shoulder, Chest, Legs, and Gloves set pieces. This enables you to grab Oblivion Guise Icon Oblivion Guise as the off-set piece, which is extremely powerful for us due to its massive Critical Strike budget and guaranteed Leech.

Early on in the tier nothing beats crafting a two-handed weapon to save Myth crests, followed by crafting your off-tier slot to gain as many stats as quickly as possible for early progression! The list below assumes an end of tier situation where crests and sparks to craft with are unlimited.

  • Weight of Command Icon Weight of Command: Notable for being the best in slot weapon, and also coming from the first boss of the raid, making it extremely easy to obtain early on, which could be a good strategy in order to skip crafting a weapon in favor of the crafted Root Warden's Regalia set.

Ascendant and Nebulous Voidcores (Bonus Rolls)

Midnight's patch 12.0.5 introduces two new yet familiar systems:

  • Nebulous Voidcore Icon Nebulous Voidcore can be used to acquire specific items from specific bosses or dungeons by letting you gain a guaranteed, but random, piece of loot from that source when you complete the associated content. To prevent bad luck streaks, once an item has been acquired in this way, your next use of a Voidcore will grant one of the remaining items you have not yet acquired.
  • Ascendant Voidcore Icon Ascendant Voidcore can be used to further increase the item level of Hero or Myth track Weapons or Trinkets if they have reached the highest possible item level of their track already, as well as Radiance-Crafted items at max quality. This will further boost their power, similar to the additional upgrade from previous Turbo Boost events.

3.1.

Which item you want to chase after depends heavily on the items you have already acquired through the Great Vault and other high-end sources, or whether you expect to down key bosses on Mythic difficulty, as you do not want to waste your Voidcores on items you may be able to get on a higher difficulty track quickly. The priority is as follows:

Voidcore (Bonus Roll) Priority
  1. Myth Track Weapon unless you already have one Myth crest crafted
  2. Mythic Locus-Walker's Ribbon Icon Locus-Walker's Ribbon and Light of the Cosmic Crescendo Icon Light of the Cosmic Crescendo
  3. Remaining best in slot items
3.2.

Ascendant Voidcores

Using your Ascendant Voidcore Icon Ascendant Voidcores follows a similar priority list as using your Crests:

  1. Your Weapon is the highest priority
  2. Your best trinket
  3. Your other trinket

You will also want to prioritize Myth track items over Hero track ones, unless you do not expect to get a Myth track variant of said item. Upgrading best in slot hard to get items such as rare trinkets like Gaze of the Alnseer Icon Gaze of the Alnseer is fine if you do not expect to get them on Mythic anytime soon.

4.

Best Crafted Items for Restoration Shaman

Embellishments are special effects that are either found on crafted pieces by default or can be added to crafted pieces during the crafting process. A character can have two embellishments equipped at any time.

You can find the full Embellishment sims at QuestionablyEpic Live, but essentially we recommend crafting the following gear:

Restoration Crafted Gear Priority
  • Farstrider's Plated Bracers Icon Farstrider's Plated Bracers with Arcanoweave Lining Icon Arcanoweave Lining
  • Adherent's Silken Shroud Icon Adherent's Silken Shroud with Arcanoweave Lining Icon Arcanoweave Lining
  • Any item you do not have on Myth track yet.

Arcanoweave Lining Icon Arcanoweave Lining is a flexible Embellishment which can go into any crafted armor piece and grants a strong power up to yourself and a nearby ally when it procs. Because it cannot be crafted on a weapon, you should use Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt Icon Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt instead on your crafted weapon, if you are below the 2 Embellishment limit.

Finally, the Root Warden's Regalia crafted set is also a strong option, and while it has three pieces we recommend using the Waist, World Tender's Barkclasp Icon World Tender's Barkclasp, and Feet, World Tender's Rootslippers Icon World Tender's Rootslippers as they still allow you to use your tier set chest and the uniquely powerful Oblivion Guise Icon Oblivion Guise helm if you are crafting the set.

For more information about crafting gear you can visit our Professions page.

4.1.

Adding Sockets to Gear

You can add sockets to Helmets, Belts, and Bracers with the Radiant Jewelbinder Icon Radiant Jewelbinder consumable obtained from the Great Vault vendor when you choose the currency reward.

5.

Crest Usage

You will usually want to start with upgrading your weapon, followed by trinkets, and then any leech/avoidance pieces or items you won't be replacing for a long time or pieces with large stat allocations such as helms or legs. These would be great choices, for example:

Restoration Shaman Crest Upgrade Priority Weapon (Mainhand)TrinketsHelmet/Chest/LegsShoulders/Gloves/Belt/Boots
6.

Evaluating Upgrades

Throughout this page and elsewhere in our guide, we regularly refer to the importance of simming yourself on Raidbots. This is because every character is unique, and each gear piece you have access to can change what is best right now for you.

While we do offer recommendations for gear and trinkets, these are not complete replacements for simming yourself. The only way to truly optimize your character to that degree is by making use of the tools available!
