Tailoring Guide for Midnight
This page covers the most important aspects of Tailoring in Midnight, including talent builds and suggestions on how to make gold with the profession.
Tailoring in Midnight
Like always, Tailoring will be responsible for creating cloth gear for combat,
such as
Arcanoweave Cloak, and gear for other professions, such as
Thalassian Alchemy Coveralls. They can also make cosmetic gear such as
Scout's Cape,
and some House Decor.
Besides crafting cloth armor and profession gear, Tailors are able to make bags
like the
Sunfire Silk Backpack, leg enchants for casters and healers, such
as
Sunfire Silk Spellthread, and powerful embellishments such as
Arcanoweave Lining.
Tailors can also learn to loot much more cloth when killing enemies, and gain
a chance to loot high Quality cloth through some of their knowledge talents.
Finally, they have cooldown cloth transmutes and specialization trees for
Arcanoweave Bolt and
Sunfire Silk Bolt.
Best Race for Tailoring in Midnight
Alliance players can be Kul'Tiran for +2 skill points with Tailoring.
As you need to be a Tailor to loot cloth from enemies, Tailoring also goes well with traditional farmers who can pull and kill high amounts of hyperspawning cloth-rich enemies constantly in a 2x4 group farm format, such as Balance Druids, Guardian Druids or Beast Mastery Hunters!
Best Crafting Stats for Tailoring in Midnight
Tailoring can make great use of all four stats, but you might want to focus on specific stats with different Tailoring specializations. We go into detail with Tailoring stats and the gear you can use to boost them in the specialized guide below:
Leveling Tailoring in Midnight
Increasing your skill is done by crafting items that grant skill points as usual, and in order to be efficient, we recommend trying to get as many first-craft bonuses while leveling as possible, which also grant experience if you are not at maximum level.
Besides learning basic recipes from the trainer, you can also learn extra recipes beyond the profession trainer by buying them with Moxie from reputation vendors and the vendor next to the profession table in Silvermoon. These will grant more first crafts and can occasionally be the most efficient way to level in the later levels.
How to Level Tailoring in Midnight
Leveling Tailoring to 60 Skill
As with most professions, getting to skill 60 can easily be done through trainer
recipes, with the remaining skill points being awarded by specialty crafts such
as
Adherent's Silken Shroud,
Sunfire Silk Bolt, and
Elegant Artisan's Alchemy Coveralls
which you should do based on your choice of profession talents.
In order to quickly level up uninterrupted, ensure you have the following materials:
- 119
Silverleaf Thread - 20
Eversinging Dust - 20
Imbued Bright Linen Bolt - 14
Bright Linen - 29
Bright Linen Bolt - 46
Embroidery Floss
Extra
Eversinging Dust,
Embroidery Floss,
Imbued Bright Linen Bolt,
Bright Linen Bolt, and
Silverleaf Thread might be useful in order
to guarantee you can hit 60 Skill as some of the recommended recipes are not guaranteed
to grant skill-ups on their final crafts.
With the materials above, craft the following items, learning new recipes from the trainer as they become available:
- 14
Bright Linen Bolt (use them on later crafts - 3
Courtly Slippers - 2
Courtly Cloak - 3
Courtly Pants - 5
Courtly Robes - 7+
Courtly Shoulders - 10+
Bright Linen Spellthread
While you can start crafting end game recipes earlier instead of relying on the Tailoring trainer, these will generally be more efficient to craft towards the end of your leveling once regular trainer recipes stop giving reliable skill points, as they are expensive to produce and will generally only turn a profit when crafted at maximum rank with Concentration.
Leveling Tailoring Past 60 Skill
Getting past Skill 60 will then vary heavily depending on which Profession talents you invest into with your Tailoring Knowledge. Since skill-ups are more RNG as you get closer to 100 Tailoring Skill, we recommend checking the Auction House or using one of our recommended crafting Addons to help you skill up without it eating into your wallet too much.
Thankfully the process isn't too difficult, as you can craft the same type of items all the way to 100, depending on your specialization. We recommend using the following families of recipes:
- Cooldown Cloths:
Arcanoweave Bolt and
Sunfire Silk Bolt can be crafted for
profit on minimum quality making them cheap ways to level up to 100, but the
amount you can craft is time-limited making it a slow process.
- Consumables:
Arcanoweave Lining,
Arcanoweave Spellthread and other high-end
consumables are great options for leveling up past 60 as they have solid demand
and can be crafted at maximum quality for a profit immediately through Concentration.
- Combat Gear Master:
- Combat gear such as
Adherent's Silken Shroud is often in demand and
grants a large amount of skill points all the way to 100, but can be hard to
get in quantity due to requiring Spark usage and the work order system.
- Combat gear such as
- Profession Gear Master:
- Tailoring can also craft gear for other professions, ranging from rare
gear that can be sold on the auction house profitably, such as
Elegant Artisan's Alchemy Coveralls,
to epic gear that is bind on pickup such as
Thalassian Alchemy Coveralls,
which requires the work order system.
- Tailoring can also craft gear for other professions, ranging from rare
gear that can be sold on the auction house profitably, such as
Tailoring Knowledge in Midnight
You will be able to track all weekly and one-time sources of profession knowledge with Myu's Knowledge Points Tracker, which has been converted to an addon in Midnight!
There are also eight treasures around the world that you can loot to gain up to 24 extra knowledge. You can find them all easily in-game with the aforementioned addon.
Best Tailoring Specializations and Talents in Midnight
The best passive option is to max out the Fabric Specialist tree, as the bonuses granted massively increase the amount of cloth you loot and also allow you to loot high Quality cloth occasionally. Pick the Eastern Kingdoms Cloth sub-node if you want to maximize your cloth gathering in the Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman zones, or Otherworldly Cloth if you are instead looking to farm on Harandar or Voidstorm.
Investment into the Nimble Needlework tree is the only way to enable
drops of
Sunfire Silk and
Arcanoweave when killing enemies. This
tree also teaches you how to craft some Embellished gear and the cooldown bolts,
Arcanoweave Bolt and
Sunfire Silk Bolt. While initially you can only
accumulate 10 crafts of each and it takes a day for their cooldown to be ready again,
you can learn how to accumulate up to 30 crafts and halve the cooldown by fully
investing into the leaf nodes.
For cloth gear crafting, profession gear, and cloaks, invest into the Sin'dorei Finery tree, which will increase your skill at these crafts massively and also unlock the generic epic gear recipes with its leaf nodes.
Finally, the Fiber Arts tree is also very valuable for most tailors due to the high stat gains it provides for all tailoring crafts. The Embroidery sub-tree is particularly notable because it grants stats and skill towards the valuable Spellthread and Embellishment crafts despite being in the generic skill tree.
Making Gold with Tailoring in Midnight
Tailoring allows you to convert cheap cloth into expensive bolts, bags, and crafted gear or leg enchants. High-end gear pieces and bind on pickup profession bags are likely to fetch a good price in the Crafting Orders system, while everything else can be sold at a profit on the auction house.
It is particularly hard to unlock the crafting of Tailoring recipes at maximum natural skill this time because the trees are configured in a way where the skill increasing nodes are randomly located deep into otherwise useless trees, as is the case in the Fabric Specialist tree, which has 15 skill increases, all locked behind large knowledge point investments.
As most Tailoring requirements for natural maximum rank crafting require the usage of maximum rank materials and all knowledge skill increases, a gigantic amount of knowledge is needed in order to unlock the best crafts, which will otherwise be locked behind Concentration usage, providing a great opportunity for gold making early on!
Finally, you can make a lot of passive / farm gold with Tailoring by investing into all the various cloth drop support nodes, as that will cause valuable cloth to drop from whatever enemies you kill during your daily activities.
We have a specialized guide for Midnight gold-making below, which contains a gold-making tier list and goes deeper into techniques and habits for successful gold making, as well as websites and addons that can help you on your journey!
