Engineering Guide for Midnight
This page covers the most important aspects of Engineering in Midnight, including talent builds and suggestions on how to make gold with the profession.
Engineering in Midnight
Engineering can create many profession gear items, such as
Giga-Gem Grippers.
They are also responsible for creating the
P.O.W. x3 gun, and helmets, boots,
and wrists for all armor types, such as the
Aetherlume Vision Shroud,
Aetherlume Clonkers, and
Aetherlume Bracelets. They also create
Scopes which divided between permanent ranged weapon enchants such as
Farstrider's Hawkeye, and temporary buffs such as
Weighted Boomshots.
Finally, they can also create a lot of unique House Decor.
Engineering-created Embellishments, such as the
B1P, Scorcher of Souls,
or the new Outdoor Embellishments, such as
Kinetic Ankle Primers,
are the only Embellishments that can be used on Engineering gear. Engineers can
also produce the
Lucky Keychain optional reagent which allows you to
remove an existing Embellishment from an existing item through recrafting.
Engineering also has many unique gadgets, such as the
Wormhole Generator: Quel'Thalas
for quick transportation, the
Curious Red Button which can give you a funny
buff or kill you randomly when clicked,
W-47CH D0G consumable-saving device,
and
M3DDY robot for quick wipe recovery.
Emergency Soul Link is particularly notable for being a combat resurrection
item that can be used by anyone, but it has the downside of requiring close proximity
to the dead player and taking 3 seconds at maximum Quality, or 6 seconds
at base Quality.
Best Race for Engineering in Midnight
There are no Horde races with Engineering bonuses, but Alliance players can be Gnomes for +5 skill points or Kul'Tiran for +2 skill points.
Best Crafting Stats for Engineering in Midnight
Engineering can make great use of all four stats, but you might want to focus on specific stats with different Engineering specializations. We go into detail with Engineering stats and the gear you can use to boost them in the specialized guide below:
Leveling Engineering in Midnight
Increasing your skill in Midnight is done by crafting items that grant skill points as usual, but the way you learn new recipes with Engineering is completely unique. Instead of learning most of them from the trainer and / or world dropped recipes, you will learn recipes randomly when using your new Recycle crafting ability.
This ability allows you to destroy 5 crafted reagents from other professions
in order to receive
Aetherlume and
Evercore Engineering reagents.
Different destroyed items grant different types and amounts of these reagents, and
while we suggest
Powder Pigment as a cheap Evercore source and
Gloaming Alloy
for Aetherlume in a vacuum, the ideal option is to buy very cheap finished items
from the Auction House, typically something mass produced for leveling purposes
that has no practical usage for other players, and thus gets sold for very cheap!
Besides learning basic recipes from the trainer, you can also learn extra recipes beyond the profession trainer by buying them with Moxie from reputation vendors and the vendor next to the profession table in Silvermoon. These will grant more first crafts and can occasionally be the most efficient way to level in the later levels.
How to Level Engineering in Midnight
Leveling Engineering to 80 Skill
In order to reach 80 skill you will need to use the Recycle feature at skill level 40 in order to learn recipes able to take you higher. For this you also need to have 10 points into the Recycling profession talent node so make sure to prioritize unlocking it while leveling!
In order to quickly level up uninterrupted, ensure you have the following materials:
- 281
Pile of Junk - 49
Malleable Wireframe - 76
Evercore
Craft the following items:
- 15
Evercore Shade - 12+
Evercore Dome Dinger - 49+
Quel'dorei Bracelets or equivalent Recycle recipe
While you can start crafting end game recipes earlier instead of relying on the suggested cheap recipes, these will generally be more efficient to craft towards the end of your leveling once recommended recipes stop giving reliable skill points, as they are expensive to produce and will generally only turn a profit when crafted at maximum rank with Concentration.
Leveling Engineering Past 80 Skill
Getting past Skill 80 will then vary heavily depending on which Profession talents you invest into with your Engineering Knowledge. Since skill-ups are more RNG as you get closer to 100 Engineering Skill, we recommend checking the Auction House or using one of our recommended crafting Addons to help you skill up without it eating into your wallet too much.
Thankfully the process isn't too difficult, as you can craft the same type of items all the way to 100, depending on your specialization. We recommend using the following families of recipes:
- Decor Master:
Ambient Aethercharged Crystal,
Small Telogrus Lamp and other
Decor items grant skill-ups all the way to 100 and can be profitable, although
their sale rates as pure cosmetic items are low and similar to transmogrification
crafting.
- Combat Gear Master:
- Combat gear such as
P.O.W. x3 and epic feet/wrist/head gear are often
in demand and grant a large amount of skill points all the way to 100, but can
be hard to get in quantity due to requiring Spark usage and the work order system.
- Combat gear such as
- Profession Gear Master:
- Engineering can also craft gear for other professions, ranging from rare
gear that can be sold on the auction house profitably, such as
Sin'dorei Clampers,
to epic gear that is bind on pickup such as
Giga-Gem Grippers,
which requires the work order system.
- Engineering can also craft gear for other professions, ranging from rare
gear that can be sold on the auction house profitably, such as
Engineering Knowledge in Midnight
You will be able to track all weekly and one-time sources of profession knowledge with Myu's Knowledge Points Tracker, which has been converted to an addon in Midnight!
There are also eight treasures around the world that you can loot to gain up to 24 extra knowledge. You can find them all easily in-game with the aforementioned addon.
Best Engineering Specializations and Talents in Midnight
If you want to craft Engineering combat and profession gear, the Combat Analytics tree is what you should invest your knowledge into. This tree has a sub-node for each gear type that unlocks all of its armor type variants and grants massive skill bonuses.
The Recycling tree improves your Recycle outcomes and has sub-nodes that massively increase the power of profession stats, making any other Engineering craft much more profitable in the process.
The Bits and Bots tree also improves Recycle but rather than improving
your stats and their effects, it increases skill and stats when crafting (optional)
reagents and teaches some recipes for them, such as
M3DDY.
Finally, Market Mobility provides the blue profession gear recipe unlocks and a lot of extra skill to craft them with, but requires a massive amount of knowledge points for each specific tool/accessory making it a very inefficient tree.
Making Gold with Engineering in Midnight
From a gold-making perspective, Engineering allows you to convert cheap crafts from other professions, ore, and other materials into expensive Gear, Parts, Scopes, and House Decor.
Until you fully max out skill, gear, and knowledge for your desired crafts, you will be reliant on Concentration to get maximum ranks out, which can quickly be exhausted every day, so make sure to create some alts to increase your production cap while it is still very profitable to do so! Even later on those can still be useful as they will be able to create maximum rank items more cheaply than the guaranteed method, which requires full maximum Rank reagents.
Gear crafting is expected to hold out for longer on high prices than consumables, but the epic crafts will require you to find customers willing to tip well. An advantage unique to Engineering is that you craft less slots than other gear-crafting professions but can maximize them for all armor types with a single knowledge tree investment node. Engineering gear also has the advantage of having a single secondary stat, making it easier for specs to stack their favored stats. The main downside is that the Embellishments allowed on Engineering armor tend to be weak and very limited, and helmets can only be used by other Engineers.
We have a specialized guide for Midnight gold-making below, which contains a gold-making tier list and goes deeper into techniques and habits for successful gold making, as well as websites and addons that can help you on your journey!
