This page covers the most important aspects of Inscription in Midnight, including talent builds and suggestions on how to make gold with the profession.

1.

Inscription in Midnight

Being a scribe allows you to create Darkmoon Cards, which can also be awarded as random loot from enemy NPCs. These can be turned into Decks once you have all the cards in your inventory, producing trinkets like Darkmoon Deck: Hunt Icon Darkmoon Deck: Hunt. While these are not particularly powerful trinkets, they can be converted by scribes into powerful embellishment versions of themselves, such as Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt Icon Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt.

Besides this new business, Inscription will still be responsible for Vantus Runes for the raids, such as Vantus Rune: Radiant Icon Vantus Rune: Radiant, reputation contracts, such as Contract: The Hara'ti Icon Contract: The Hara'ti, secondary stat fixing Missives, such as Thalassian Missive of the Feverflare Icon Thalassian Missive of the Feverflare, Off-Hands, such as Aln'hara Lantern Icon Aln'hara Lantern, Staves, such as Aln'hara Cane Icon Aln'hara Cane, Bows, such as Aln'hara Sprigshot Icon Aln'hara Sprigshot, and multiple reagents, such as Soul Cipher Icon Soul Cipher.

They can also craft profession gear, such as Gilded Alchemist's Mixing Rod Icon Gilded Alchemist's Mixing Rod, and new Thalassian Treatises to improve profession knowledge weekly, such as Thalassian Treatise on Inscription Icon Thalassian Treatise on Inscription.

2.

Best Race for Inscription in Midnight

If you are a Horde player, Nightborne will grant you +5 skill points, while Alliance players can be Kul'Tiran for +2 skill points.

3.

Best Crafting Stats for Inscription in Midnight

Inscription can make great use of all four stats, but you might want to focus on specific stats with different Inscription specializations. We go into detail with Inscription stats and the gear you can use to boost them in the specialized guide below:

4.

Leveling Inscription in Midnight

Increasing your skill in Midnight is done by crafting items that grant skill points as usual, but in order to be efficient we recommend trying to get as many first-craft bonuses while leveling Inscription as possible, with the specific items to aim for while leveling varying depending on what material costs are like at the time you are leveling and their current sale price.

Besides learning basic recipes from the trainer, you can also learn extra recipes beyond the profession trainer by buying them with Moxie from reputation vendors and the vendor next to the profession table in Silvermoon. These will grant more first crafts and can occasionally be the most efficient way to level in the later levels.

5.

How to Level Inscription in Midnight

Skill 1-30 Skill 31 to 100
5.1.

Leveling Inscription to 30 Skill

In order to quickly level up uninterrupted, ensure you have the following materials:

  • 7 Thalassian Songwater Icon Thalassian Songwater
  • 56 Azeroot Icon Azeroot
  • 240 of the cheapest Midnight herbs available

Once you have all the materials, mill the 240 herbs in order to get to skill 20, which is not guaranteed but if you do any available first crafts with the pigments you get from milling you should get there easily, and craft 7 Faunatender's Baton Icon Faunatender's Baton in order to get to skill 30.

5.2.

Leveling Inscription Past 30 Skill

A simple way to level Inscription once regular recipes stop giving skill is to unlock the Calm Hands tree, in order to unlock the Thalassian Treatise on Inscription Icon Thalassian Treatise on Inscription. By crafting it or any other learned treatise, you will have a high chance to learn other treatise recipes, and treatises give 1 skill per craft all the way to 100 while being quite cheap to craft! Doing weekly treatises for your alts and public orders should easily get you to 100 skill cheaply.

Alternatively, if you want to start crafting end game consumables and gear early you should check the Auction House or using one of our recommended crafting Addons to help you skill up without it eating into your wallet too much.

Thankfully the process isn't too difficult, as you can craft the same type of items all the way to 100, depending on your specialization. We recommend using the following families of recipes:

  • Consumable Master:
    • Vantus Runes, contracts such as Contract: The Hara'ti Icon Contract: The Hara'ti, and Decor such as Technique: Floating Void-Touched Tome Icon Technique: Floating Void-Touched Tome are good options as they grant skill all the way to 100 and can be profitably sold, depending on market fluctuations.
  • Combat Gear Master:
    • Combat gear such as Aln'hara Cane Icon Aln'hara Cane and Aln'hara Lantern Icon Aln'hara Lantern is often in demand and grants a large amount of skill points all the way to 100, but can be hard to get in quantity due to requiring Spark usage and the work order system.
  • Profession Gear Master:
    • Inscription can also craft gear for other professions, ranging from rare gear that can be sold on the auction house profitably, such as Sin'dorei Alchemist's Mixing Rod Icon Sin'dorei Alchemist's Mixing Rod, to epic gear that is bind on pickup such as Gilded Alchemist's Mixing Rod Icon Gilded Alchemist's Mixing Rod, which requires the work order system.
Prices May Change! Keep in mind that our recommendations are based off of prices and recipes that are somewhat stable and reliable to skill up with. There may be cheaper or more efficient ways to reach 100 Skill, depending on the market and economy, as well as your ability to fulfill crafting orders for other players that can still give you skill-ups. The above is recommended for ease of access, not because it is always the cheapest.
6.

Inscription Knowledge in Midnight

You will be able to track all weekly and one-time sources of profession knowledge with Myu's Knowledge Points Tracker, which has been converted to an addon in Midnight!

There are also eight treasures around the world that you can loot to gain up to 24 extra knowledge. You can find them all easily in-game with the aforementioned addon.

7.

Midnight Milling and Ink Guide

Using the crafting interface, you can mill all herbs of a type on your inventory automatically over time as if you were crafting items in a batch.

Also, as it can often be confusing, here is the information on what each herb type mills into and what ink can be produced from the pigment:

  • Tranquility Bloom Icon Tranquility Bloom mills into Powder Pigment Icon Powder Pigment, which is used for all inks;
  • Mana Lily Icon Mana Lily mills into Mana Lily Pigment Icon Mana Lily Pigment, which is also used for all inks;
  • Argentleaf Icon Argentleaf mills into Argentleaf Pigment Icon Argentleaf Pigment, which is used for Sienna Ink Icon Sienna Ink;
  • Sanguithorn Icon Sanguithorn mills into Sanguithorn Pigment Icon Sanguithorn Pigment, which is used for Munsell Ink Icon Munsell Ink.

Investment into higher quality herbs and / or milling and inking related talents will result in higher quality pigments / inks, as well as higher chances of saving materials along the way and faster milling and ink crafting.

8.

Best Inscription Specializations and Talents in Midnight

We recommend starting by investing into the Calm Hands tree, in order to unlock the Thalassian Treatise on Inscription Icon Thalassian Treatise on Inscription, which is a great way to gain profession skill and knowledge at the same time! Knowledge spent on this tree works towards building your crafting stats, making you more efficient at doing all Inscription crafts.

The best second specialization for you depends on what your goals are. The Darkmoon Curiosity tree unlocks the ability to create four types of cards, which have trinkets and Sigils associated with them:

Item Type
Darkmoon Dominion: Void Icon Darkmoon Dominion: Void Trinket
Darkmoon Sigil: Void Icon Darkmoon Sigil: Void Sigil
Darkmoon Dominion: Hunt Icon Darkmoon Dominion: Hunt Trinket
Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt Icon Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt Sigil
Darkmoon Dominion: Blood Icon Darkmoon Dominion: Blood Trinket
Darkmoon Sigil: Blood Icon Darkmoon Sigil: Blood Sigil
Darkmoon Dominion: Rot Icon Darkmoon Dominion: Rot Trinket
Darkmoon Sigil: Rot Icon Darkmoon Sigil: Rot Sigil

Besides unlocking the crafts listed above, investment into the tree and its sub-nodes grants massive skill bonuses when creating these items, but it can be worth unlocking without any point investment, as you will be able to unlock one trinket or Sigil of your choice right away, and that would be a great target for getting started with Concentration usage early!

Alternatively, in order to be able to produce all the reagents, inks, and pigments necessary for Inscription crafts in the most efficient manner, you might want invest into the Perfected Products tree, which improves efficiency and skill when doing those crafts, and also Missives, Vantus Runes, and Contracts this time around.

Last but not least, the Blueprints tree improves your skill and efficiency at creating combat and profession gear, with the left side focusing on Staves, Bows, and Off-Hands and the right side focusing on the three types of profession tools Inscription can do for itself, Alchemy, and Cooking.

Unfortunately the amount of points needed to maximize each of these individual tools is extremely high, making it a very expensive path with little actual gain at the end, but investing early into items used by many players such as the caster staff or off-hand is likely to pay off handsomely in trade chat commissions from combat-focused players!

9.

Making Gold with Inscription in Midnight

Ideally, Inscription allows you to convert cheap materials into expensive runes, missives, Darkmoon Sigils and end game gear and profession tools. You will also be able to produce treatises to increase your own knowledge and that of other players through the crafting orders system.

The commodity nature of some of its crafts implies it is very likely that the consumable market will quickly get loaded with runes and missives that are only marginally more expensive than the materials used to create them, but Inscription has a lot of depth within its talent trees, and different crafters will have different markets to explore.

Until you fully max out skill, gear, and knowledge for your desired crafts, you will be reliant on Concentration to get maximum ranks out, which can quickly be exhausted every day, so make sure to create some alts to increase your production cap while it is still very profitable to do so! Even later on those can still be useful as they will be able to create maximum rank items more cheaply than the guaranteed method, which requires full maximum Rank reagents.

We have a specialized guide for Midnight gold-making below, which contains a gold-making tier list and goes deeper into techniques and habits for successful gold making, as well as websites and addons that can help you on your journey!
