Enhancement Shaman DPS Spec, Builds, and Talents — 12.0.5
On this page, you will find out the best talents for your Enhancement Shaman in World of Warcraft Patch 12.0.5. We also have default talent builds for various types of content, such as raiding or Mythic+. If you play with Warmode on, we have your PvP talents covered as well.
Best Midnight Talents for Enhancement Shaman
In Midnight, Enhancement has seen some major changes to its talent tree, with many core mechanics seeing adjustments alongside a rework to both Hero Trees. Alongside a reduction in the number of available talents, this has had a significant impact on how the spec builds. Our current recommendations are as follows:
- Raid -
Totemic provides the strongest single-target
option while also bringing cleave and frequent burst. Its 1-minute cooldown timers
are also much better suited to current encounters. - Mythic+ - both trees are viable, depending on key level.
Totemic
is the most flexible in less organized groups, with a focus on 1-minute burst and
large target AoE.
Stormbringer leans toward planned routing,
with high 2-minute burst and a 5-6 target specialty.
Totemic is firmly ahead in raids, bringing a generalist package of
single-target, cleave, and AoE wrapped inside a 1-minute burst profile,
suiting it very well to most Midnight Season 1 encounters. In Mythic+, it's a
slightly more complicated story, with both trees having their own niche and being
equally playable.
Totemic is the general recommendation, as 1-minute
burst timers and large scale AoE is the easiest to fit into most routes. However,
at higher key levels with organized groups, playing around
Stormbringer
2-minute cooldowns gives it the highest ceiling, with a specialty for 5-6 target
AoE. Below, we have some import codes if you want to jump straight in-game:
Quick Start Import Codes:
Raid / Single Target - Totemic
AoE / Mythic+ - Totemic
Delves - Totemic
Totemic Raid Talents
Totemic saw a massive improvement in Midnight, and gained access to
some significant new toys - in particular
Totemic Momentum. It provides
strong priority damage while doing excellent cleave for free, and as such is the
recommended choice.
Totemic Mythic+ Talents
In Midnight,
Totemic saw some extremely welcome updates to its design
across the board, and this extends to AoE as well. Since it sacrifices almost
no single-target strength to use its best AoE loadout, it's well suited to the
Mythic+ landscape, slotting into any route or composition comfortably with its
low cooldown timers. As such, it's our recommended choice:
Totemic Delve Talents
Totemic is extremely well suited to Delves, being able to deploy
huge AoE burst whenever needed due to its short cooldowns. Due to it already
hybridizing with its build naturally, it also transitions between target counts
with no real difficulty, flowing well throughout each delve. As such, it's
the recommended choice.
Stormbringer Raid Talents
Currently
Stormbringer is slightly weaker in single-target, though has
seen recent improvements, with extremely capable burst during its cooldowns.
It also brings cleave for free, it's just slightly less suited to the encounters
currently present, so is more of an alternative:
Stormbringer Mythic+ Talents
In AoE,
Stormbringer closes the gap with
Totemic, and has
a higher ceiling provided you can plan around its key moments. Its higher RNG,
alongside its stricter 2-minute windows, does mean it can be more difficult to
pilot though. It also has a higher burden on routing to make sure you can get
the most out of its tools, but especially at 5-6 targets it excels:
Stormbringer Delve Talents
Stormbringer is well suited to Delves, with the ability to pool
damage around key moments. It has some incredibly powerful burst moments, but
its unpredictability can sometimes cause issues. Its massive
Maelstrom Weapon
generation can fuel
Overflowing Maelstrom stacks for additional free
healing, so is capable of handling itself well.
In Midnight,
Totemic still focuses heavily on
Lava Lash,
building out any talent that leans into this to maximize both
Hot Hand
and
Splitstream. At the bottom it needs
Sundering to activate
all three
Whirling Elements motes, and avoids
Ascendance
to keep
Doom Winds synced up with
Surging Totem. Finally, it
picks up all four points in
Storm Unleashed to cement
Crash Lightning
as a core part of the rotation. Some additional notes are:
-
In the
Totemic Hero Tree you should always pick up
Earthsurge
to make better use of
Splitstream. Since there's no
Ascendance
taken,
Amplification Core is the pick, and
Supportive Imbuements
is the most flexible final choice node - providing better AoE while bringing
the same single-target power.
-
While not strictly for performance, Totem related talents on the class tree
make managing
Surging Totem easier. In particular,
Totemic Focus
for the additional range and
Totemic Projection for easier repositioning
when needed.
Totemic builds almost exactly the same in AoE, with the only change
being a switch to
Chaining Storms to further improve
Chain Lightning
and
Ride the Lightning damage. It still grabs
Sundering through
Primordial Storm for its 30-second burst, and takes all four points in
the
Storm Unleashed Apex Talent to add more punch to
Crash Lightning
casts. Some additional notes are:
-
In the
Totemic Hero Tree you should always pick up
Earthsurge
to make better use of
Splitstream. On the central choice
Amplification Core
is the pick due to no
Ascendance being taken, and
Supportive Imbuements provides the most AoE potential on the final
node.
-
Totemic has a floating point in the middle of the tree, with four
viable picks:
Fire Nova – provides the most AoE and is recommended.
Converging Storms – provides very good priority damage.
Stormflurry – all-rounder pick leaning to single-target.
Flurry – provides the most single-target power.
-
The class tree allows for full investment into
Capacitor Totem for up
to a 30 second cooldown reduction, giving some amount of extra CC potential in
Mythic+. Other utility like
Cleanse Spirit and
Earthgrab Totem
can be slotted in on a dungeon-per-dungeon basis.
Stormbringer focuses heavily on
Maelstrom Weapon generation
and cycling for
Tempest, so all talents that serve that purpose are
taken. Since there's a fairly limited amount of choices on the tree, it runs out
of good points to spend. It makes sure to always pick up
Thunder Capacitor and
Elemental Assault at the bottom, while
also pathing to
Ascendance to make use of
Descending Skies. Due to the talent point squeeze at the bottom and the
low value of the final
Storm Unleashed point for
Stormbringer
however, it opts to only pick up the first two nodes to make room for
Primordial Storm. Some additional notes are:
-
On the Hero Tree,
Stormbringer always plays
Supercharge.
Utility picks are up to preference, though passive defense with
Nature's Protection
is the common pick.
-
Stormstrike is the strike of choice, so naturally all related talents
are taken. Most importantly,
Stormblast and
Stormflurry in
the centre of the tree.
-
Stormbringer runs out of valuable points to pick up, so the last
few are spent on fairly low impact options.
Fire Nova,
Converging Storms and
Chaining Storms are all similar - with the
preference being
Converging Storms due to the priority damage advantage.
In AoE the goal of
Stormbringer is to generate and spend as much
Maelstrom Weapon as possible to fish for
Tempest. The only
major changes from the single-target build here is locking in
Chaining Storms
to further improve
Chain Lightning damage, and the addition of both
Sundering and
Primordial Storm for burst AoE. Some additional
notes are:
-
On the Hero Tree,
Stormbringer always plays
Supercharge.
Other choice nodes are up to preference, depending on your utility and defense
needs.
-
Dropping to two points in
Storm Unleashed gives room to pick up
Primordial Storm, providing extra 30-second burst plus an additional
Haste cooldown with
Surging Elements. If you prefer consistency and are
struggling to keep it aligned with
Ascendance, switching to
4 points in the Apex talent is similar in performance.
-
There's very little choice on the rest of the spec tree, with few points that
are worth switching around. While 1-minute playstyles with
Doom Winds
are possible, they perform worse due to losing the impact of
Descending Skies.
-
The class tree allows for full investment into
Capacitor Totem for up
to a 25 second cooldown reduction, giving some amount of extra CC potential in
Mythic+. Other utility like
Cleanse Spirit and
Earthgrab Totem
can be slotted in on a dungeon-per-dungeon basis.
The builds listed above are popular recommendations, covering various different loadouts suited to each style of endgame content. Each Talent Build will have it's own rotation, and can also be manipulated further for specific types of content and to better benefit your group.

Apex Talent:
Storm Unleashed
The Enhancement Apex Talent,
Storm Unleashed, focuses on
Crash Lightning
while also providing some extra passive bonuses to core parts of the toolkit. These
lean heavily into making it a core rotational button, and all points are used in
most builds, providing good single-target and AoE benefits:
Storm Unleashed - Grants each stack of
Maelstrom Weapon
spent a 2% chance to cause your next
Crash Lightning cast to ignore its
cooldown. Additionally, the
Crash Lightning weapon enhancement buff can
now stack and overlap.
Storm Unleashed - Increases the damage
dealt by
Maelstrom Weapon spenders by 7.5%, and weapon imbue damage by 10%
per point.
Storm Unleashed - Causes
Crash Lightning
to also create a static pool, dealing an additional 100% of the
initial cast's damage over 2 seconds. Additionally, the weapon enhancement buff
grants 15% increased auto-attack speed per stack.
Even just the first point solidifies
Crash Lightning as a core part of
the rotation at all target counts, adding an extra proc to react to. Since it allows
for the effect to overlap, it means it's hard to waste the procs by refreshing,
the only real way to misplay it is to not press it at all. The follow-up points
are largely passive increases - though they affect things that we use so frequently
that there's a lot of value in each point.
Enhancement Shaman Hero Talents
Enhancement has two distinct Hero Talent choices available that, as covered in the above sections, drastically alter your build choices and gameplay loop depending on your selection.
Stormbringer
This tree grants access to
Tempest, a powerful proc that empowers
your next
Lightning Bolt. This can happen randomly when spending
Maelstrom Weapon,
converting it into a huge AoE burst tool. Additionally, this Hero Talent provides the following:
Supercharge provides an additional method of refunding
Maelstrom Weapon,
causing it to cycle resources much faster.
Conductive Energy applies a debuff to targets hit with your spenders,
converting a portion of damage dealt into extra damage. This allows it to deal
additional funnel to key targets when active.
This orients
Stormbringer strongly around our resource gameplay,
rewarding good management and cycling with explosive burst. It's able to leverage
a variety of tools to cleave without any single-target loss, but can be prone to bad
RNG streaks.
Totemic
Conversely,
Totemic focuses strongly on
Lava Lash through
the
Hot Hand effect, while also granting access to a new cooldown,
Surging Totem.
This pulses AoE damage while active, and also links into a number of different
abilities for bonus effects.
Splitstream causes
Lava Lash to also trigger
Sundering
while
Hot Hand is active, which through
Earthsurge also causes
your
Surging Totem to pulse.
Totemic Rebound also causes your
Surging Totem to deal
additional damage whenever you cast a
Maelstrom Weapon spender, amplifying
future damage it deals until it expires.
This adds an extra cooldown that aligns with
Doom Winds into the Enhancement
toolkit. When paired with other options on the tree, it gives it some potent options
to deal with 30-second and 1-minute burst timers, while dealing strong priority
damage without any sacrifices to cleave or AoE.
PvP Talents (War Mode)
"War Mode" is an optional feature that enables open-world PvP encounters that confers some benefits when active:
- Grants access to PvP talents in the open world.
- 10% increase in World Quest rewards at max level.
- 10% more experience gained while leveling.
- Earn Conquest Points which can reward gear every week.
With the benefits of War Mode for leveling and PvE content, it is an optional way to maximize your leveling speed and reward potential. However, you will open yourself up to open-world PvP, so be aware of hostile enemy players who could interfere with you; this is a risk you will have to decide on your own if you want to take.
Generally, these selections are made to optimize your ability to kill enemies faster, increasing your pace when moving through content.
Shamanism allows for more liberal
Bloodlust /
Heroism usage without, having to worry about the 10-minute
lockout. Great for solo and duo content.
Burrow gives you an emergency escape if you get into
trouble with a 2-minute cooldown, and also deals massive Physical
damage when you emerge from the ground.
Counterstrike Totem copies the damage you take and repeats
it onto the enemy that dealt it, allowing you to return the favour against
dangerous enemies!
Static Field Totem,
Unleash Shield,
Electrocute, and
Grounding Totem have very limited PvE uses, being more focused on
in-combat control. While these are very strong for some situations, they are much
more suited to PvP engagements, and as such, are not recommended for efficient
enemy killing.
