Devourer Demon Hunter DPS Mythic+ Tips — 12.0.5
In this guide, you will find tips and advice to tackle Mythic+ dungeons with your Devourer Demon Hunter in World of Warcraft Patch 12.0.5.
Devourer Demon Hunter in Mythic+ in Midnight Season 1
On this page, we will be covering how to get the most out of your Demon Hunter in Mythic+ dungeons, including the best way to build talents, any rotational changes that you need to know, and tips and tricks to excel in keystones.
If you are unfamiliar with Mythic+ and its associated general mechanics, you can read more about it on our dedicated Mythic+ page below. You can also find out more about the Mythic+ Meta on our Tier List page.

Devourer Demon Hunter provides a damage profile that benefits from
opportunities to ramp its effects. While you may not have damage prepared at
the start of any given pull, the longer each pull goes, the higher your
damage will be. Devourer has incredibly good scaling when moving into
higher target counts, as the bonus Soul Fragment generation is uncapped, allowing
for increased access to both
Void Metamorphosis and
Collapsing Star.
Depending on your build of choice, it provides either up-front burst AoE, or a
slower build-up that peaks slightly higher. Between the two Hero Tree options, we
currently recommend
Annihilator, although
Void-Scarred is
strong and has its own advantages.
Best Mythic+ Talent Builds
In Season 1 of Midnight,
Annihilator is the better of the two
options in Mythic+. It leverages higher damage buffs to
Collapsing Star,
and provides higher overall damage that scales with pull size.
Void-Scarred is still viable, and can do well particularly at lower key
levels that feature more frequent pulls, so is an option if you prefer that
playstyle.
Devourer Demon Hunter Mythic+ Talents -
Annihilator
Annihilator is the standout pick in Season 1 of Midnight, leaning
into a playstyle that suits the various requirements of Mythic+ dungeons. Since
Collapsing Star is your main damage tool, this makes your
Void Metamorphosis windows very important, and optimizing them is crucial
to your throughput during each dungeon. It also brings strong passive effects
through
Voidfall and
Doomsayer, providing consistent damage for
each pack.
The Mythic+ talent build is very similar to its single-target loadout, losing very little single-target and priority damage while picking up AoE enabling tools. With the reliable damage setup, a solid single-target toolkit for bosses, and strong defense, it's a standout Mythic+ specialization.
Talent Swap Options
Annihilator has a couple of talent swap options to keep in mind:
Soul Glutton can be swapped to over
Emptiness if you find yourself at a keystone level where combat does not last long.
Likewise,
Doomsayer can be chosen over
Harness the Cosmos in similar circumstances.
Soul Cleanse and
Burn It Out are both case-by-case tools depending
on the dungeon. Select the appropriate option depending on if Curses or Diseases are
present in the dungeon.

Best Devourer Demon Hunter Mythic+ Talents -
Void-Scarred
Void-Scarred provides more frequent bursts of damage, leaning into
shorter
Void Metamorphosis windows to leverage up-front burst from
Voidsurge. It also amplifies
Eradicate further, giving it more
frequent spikes of damage at lower keystone levels. Due to the lower ceiling and
fewer
Collapsing Star interactions however, it starts to fall behind as
keystone levels climb.
It also has to take much more risks by jumping into melee, especially when compared to the alternative option that can stay safely at range. Still, the damage it provides shines in Mythic+, and is a strong contender when compared to other specializations.
Talent Swap Options
Void-Scarred has a couple of utility swap options to keep in mind:
Soul Cleanse and
Burn It Out are both case-by-case tools depending
on the dungeon. Select the appropriate option depending on if Curses or Diseases are
present in the dungeon.

Based on the selections above, the following class talents have unique use cases:
Utility Kit and Abilities
This section covers key talents and abilities Devourer has access to that can be leveraged in Mythic+ situations.
Interrupts and Crowd Control
Devourer has a variety of tools to stop enemy casts. Due to their different uses, we've broken them down into tools for single-target situations, and those better suited to AoE.
Single Target Crowd Control
Disrupt is Devourer's interrupt, with a 15-second cooldown. It should be
used aggressively to stop dangerous enemy casts (see our
Disrupt macro on
the Devourer Demon Hunter macro page).
Imprison is a 45-second cooldown hard crowd-control, but breaks on
damage taken. This can be used either as a stop mid-combat, or can be used to lock
a target down that you would rather skip.
Imprison is unique in that
enemies affected by this will not aggro as you or your party run past.
AoE Crowd Control
Void Nova is Devourer's AoE stun tool, stunning your target and any nearby
enemies for 3 seconds, with a 45-second cooldown and 30-yard range. This is great
for disrupting large groups of enemies and, due to its instant activation, can
be a strong AoE stop when multiple targets are casting at once. With
Focused Ire
taken, this also extends the stun on your current target to 5 seconds, making it
an even better lockdown tool. Importantly, this is a ranged stun for
Devourer, meaning you do not have to be next to the enemies you need to stun like
you would with
Void Nova.
Sigil of Misery is an AoE disorient on a 2-minute cooldown (reduced to
1.5 minutes with
Improved Sigil of Misery), that disorients targets within
for 15 seconds after a 2 second delay. The effect is broken on damage taken,
making it more of a stopping tool, but needs to be timed well to use as an AoE
stop. This can also be used to skip, as affected enemies won't aggro party members
(but will aggro you), but requires the use of
Shadowmeld to drop combat
after getting past.
Defensive Tools
Blur is Devourer's primary active defense tool, reducing damage taken
by 25%, lasting for 10 seconds with a 1-minute cooldown. This can be given another
charge with the
Demonic Resilience talent, and due to its low cooldown,
should be used aggressively in any dangerous situation.
Darkness grants a 15% chance (increased to 30% in dungeons) to avoid any
damage event for you or party members stood within. This lasts 8 seconds, with a
5-minute cooldown. The duration can be increased to 11 seconds with
Long Night, or the cooldown can be reduced to 3 minutes with
Pitch Black. A helpful bonus for group survival, especially
on repeat damage events such as DoTs, to help your Healer keep up. Due to its long
cooldown, you should plan ahead of time when to deploy this to deal with high
intensity pulls.
Annihilator also gains access to
Phase Shift, which
grants 2% damage reduction for each stack of
Voidfall you have. This
will fluctuate between a 0% and 8% damage reduction, depending on how many stacks
you currently have active.
Other Utility
Chaos Brand is Devourer's strongest reason to be brought to raid,
and in Mythic+, this is no different. Depending on the group composition,
this can be extremely beneficial, as a large amount of classes in the game
currently deal at least some magic damage for this to amplify. This
usually ends up providing a significant amount of extra damage, on top of what
you yourself do.
Consume Magic is Devourer's offensive dispel with a 10-second cooldown.
This has the advantage of a 30-yard range and can be used to remove buffs from
enemy targets. Its cooldown does mean you have to be picky with what to dispel
though, especially if multiple enemies are buffed at once.
Vengeful Retreat, while niche, breaks snares when cast. This can
be useful in certain dungeons.
Soul Cleanse /
Burn It Out allow you to use
Soul Immolation
as a self-dispel. The former removes Curses, while the latter removes Diseases, so
has some niche uses for survival. With
Spontaneous Immolation though,
this becomes far less reliable. Depending on how important the dispel is, it may
be worth switching over to
Tempered Soul to utilize it.
Dealing with Affixes
This section covers key talents and abilities Devourer has access to that can be leveraged in Mythic+ situations.
Ascendant Affix Management for Devourer Demon Hunter
Xalatath's Bargain: Ascendant will periodically spawn a number of orbs in waves that need to be crowd-controlled in some way, before they complete a cast. Each orb successfully stopped provides the group bonus Haste, so it is a high priority to deal with.
Devourer can and should make use of
Void Nova and
Sigil of Misery
to stop a wave, while also having
Disrupt as a backup to catch
any strays if your group is struggling to clear them all.
Voidbound Affix Management for Devourer Demon Hunter
Xalatath's Bargain: Voidbound will periodically summon a large Void
Emissary that will begin to cast
Dark Prayer. This enemy must be
killed before the cast completes to stop it, otherwise it provides significant
damage reduction to nearby enemies. If successfully stopped, the group is granted
a large amount of Versatility and cooldown reduction.
This needs to be killed off fast, so try to save short, bursty cooldowns
like
Void Ray or
Collapsing Star to switch quickly. This
is not always possible, however, due to them being key to your AoE rotation, so
just be aware of it spawning and swap accordingly.
Pulsar Affix Management for Devourer Demon Hunter
Xalatath's Bargain: Pulsar spawns an orb that orbits each player, which needs to be soaked by a separate player before they expire. Each orb will grant the party 4% Mastery and 2% Leech, stacking, with a 30-second duration. Unsoaked orbs will increase nearby enemies' damage done, and reduce their damage taken.
Devourer has no specific utility to deal with this, instead you need to be aware of your positioning, both to make sure other players can soak up the orb circling you, and so you can catch orbs from nearby players.
Devour Affix Management for Devourer Demon Hunter
Xalatath's Bargain: Devour applies a debuff to each party member, that must be either dispelled or healed off (though bear in mind this does not absorb incoming heals). Each debuff dispelled provides the group with maximum health and Critical Strike, stacking, for 30 seconds. Any debuffs not cleared will heal nearby enemies a large amount.
New in Midnight, Devour now adds a 10% slow to your character. This means that
Vengeful Retreat is able to dispel it. Alternatively,
Soul Immolation
removes it with either
Burn It Out or
Soul Cleanse when
activated (or if it procs with
Spontaneous Immolation). If these options aren't
available, consider committing a Health Potion or Healthstone to help your healer if they're
struggling.
