Beast Mastery Hunter Gameplay and Rotation Guide

Welcome to our Rotation page for Beast Mastery Hunter. On this page, you will find everything you need to know about actually playing the spec in Raiding and Mythic+ scenarios.

The rotation here, aside from the more concrete openers, is laid out in a conditional priority list. Essentially, for every single spell that you cast, you should cast the highest-priority spell you can, for which the conditions are met. After the spell is cast, you should start over from the top of the priority list, and repeat the process.

The buttons below can be used to select between curated Single-Target and AoE/Mythic+ loadouts. You can also use the switches below to add or remove individual talents you may also be using.

If you miss this window by mistake, you should still cast a Wailing Arrow Icon Wailing Arrow sometime before Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath ends.
  13. Cast Cobra Shot Icon Cobra Shot during Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath as long as Barbed Shot Icon Barbed Shot is nowhere near reaching 2 charges.

  16. Cast Cobra Shot Icon Cobra Shot as a filler.

Nature's Ally Management

Beast Mastery does not have a lot of minmaxing, which makes this one thing even more important. This Apex Talent buffs Kill Command Icon Kill Command after using non-Kill Command Icon Kill Command abilities. In practice, this means that we are always trying to weave other abilities in-between our Kill Command Icon Kill Commands. Casting Kill Command Icon Kill Command twice in a row is never a good idea. Think of Barbed Shot Icon Barbed Shot and Cobra Shot Icon Cobra Shot as fillers that each buff your next Kill Command Icon Kill Command. Even so, it is fine to cast two fillers between Kill Command Icon Kill Command if you have to.

Black Arrow Priority

FAQHow to prioritize Black Arrow Icon Black Arrow?
Always treat it as a higher-priority filler than Barbed Shot Icon Barbed Shot. You may also prioritize it over Kill Command Icon Kill Command, as long as you never let KC reach 2 charges.
1.5.

AoE Opener for Beast Mastery Hunter

Ensure Hunter's Mark Icon Hunter's Mark is active on your primary target.

  1. Pre-cast your Algeth'ar Puzzle Box Icon Algeth'ar Puzzle Box around 2 seconds before combat begins if there is a pulltimer. If not, use it right before Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath.
  2. Cast all of your Barbed Shot Icon Barbed Shots as the pull is gathered.
  3. Cast Black Arrow Icon Black Arrow. If it hits 3 or more targets, it will grant Beast Cleave Icon Beast Cleave.
  4. Use your Potion, Racials, etc.
  5. Use Wild Thrash Icon Wild Thrash here only if the Black Arrow Icon Black Arrow did not give you Beast Cleave Icon Beast Cleave.
  6. Use Wild Thrash Icon Wild Thrash.
  7. Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath
  8. Wild Thrash Icon Wild Thrash

Black Arrow Priority

FAQHow to prioritize Black Arrow Icon Black Arrow?
The main thing is to never prioritize it over Kill Command Icon Kill Command. Prioritize it over Barbed Shot Icon Barbed Shot as a filler only if Withering Fire Icon Withering Fire is up and Barbed Shot Icon Barbed Shot is not on 2 charges. In all other cases, prioritize it below Barbed, but above Cobra.
2.

Midnight Season 1 Tier Set

Your Tier Set makes Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath significantly more powerful, making it do more upfront damage and causing it to spawn a Dire Beast Icon Dire Beast. This does not change your rotational approach in any way.

3.

Class and Spec Mechanics Explained

In order to better explain the specific usage and benefits of the Beast Mastery Hunter kit, we have compiled a more detailed explanation on individual parts of our rotation. This includes important rotational mechanics that you need to pay attention to, to cooldowns and how to use them, enabling you can reach your full potential when playing Beast Mastery Hunter.

Stampede Icon Stampede Apex Talents
3.1.

Pack Leader Stampede

When playing Pack Leader Beast Mastery Hunter, your first Kill Command Icon Kill Command cast after every Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath will spawn a Stampede, a 30-ish-yard long "line" of beasts that charge at your target. It deals heavy damage to all enemies inside it over 7 sec. Aiming and positioning this is key in many situations. Firstly, you should position your character so that the line extends through not just where the mobs currently are, but if they are moving, where you think they might be going. This is essential to making optimal use of Stampede. Think of it as you getting a single stroke with a paint brush, and you need this single brush to cover as many of the mobs as possible.

3.2.

Nature's Ally Apex Talents

The final node of our Apex Talents does have some rotational aspects you should know. It incentivizes you to never cast two Kill Command Icon Kill Commands back-to-back. Instead, you should always try to weave another ability in between them to maximize coverage of that 30% buff.

In addition to this, the initial tiers of Nature's Ally Icon Nature's Ally cause Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath to do a significant amount of damage. This does not change our rotational priorities, but is worth knowing.

Important Cooldowns for Beast Mastery Hunter

Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath
4.1.

Bestial Wrath

Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath is our only cooldown. It has a 30-second cooldown and 15-second duration, and it is the vehicle of many of our Hero Talent mechanics.

It does heavy damage on its own, and buffs all of your damage by 20% for its duration. In addition to this, several Talents like Killer Cobra Icon Killer Cobra, Wildspeaker Icon Wildspeaker, Bloodshed Icon Bloodshed, Thundering Hooves Icon Thundering Hooves, Scent of Blood Icon Scent of Blood and Piercing Fangs Icon Piercing Fangs amplify it further. The vast majority of your damage is done in these Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath windows.

4.2.

Hero Talent Impacts of Bestial Wrath

For Pack Leader, Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath activates your Howl of the Pack Leader Icon Howl of the Pack Leader, causing your next Kill Command Icon Kill Command to summon a Beast. In addition, your first Kill Command inside Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath will also launch a Stampede Icon Stampede. This is a roughly 40 yards long "line" of beasts that charge at your target, and it gets placed when you press the Kill Command. It deals heavy damage to all enemies inside it over 7 sec.

Because this effect is placed the moment you cast your first Kill Command Icon Kill Command in Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath and does not move, and because it is a long line that originates from your character position, aiming and positioning this line is essential, particularly in AoE situations.

You want to place Stampede in such a way that it will cover as many targets as possible, for as long as possible. Positioning your character so that the line extends through not just where the mobs currently are, but if they are moving, where you think they might be going, is essential to making optimal use of Stampede.

For Dark Ranger, the Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath button gives you a Black Arrow Icon Black Arrow proc, and turns into Wailing Arrow Icon Wailing Arrow once activated. You get one use of Wailing Arrow, which deals heavy damage and gives you a Black Arrow Icon Black Arrow proc. We want to use this when the Withering Fire Icon Withering Fire buff is about to end, to sneak another Black Arrow Icon Black Arrow into that window.
