On this page, we list the best gems, enchants, flasks, potions, and food you can get for your Frost Mage, based on your stat priority. We also give budget alternatives. This page is updated for World of Warcraft Patch 12.0.5.

1.

Make sure you have one Indecipherable Eversong Diamond Icon Indecipherable Eversong Diamond somewhere in your gear. This is the most valued gem out of all of them. Beyond that, fill any other sockets with Flawless Masterful Garnet Icon Flawless Masterful Garnet.

Best Enchants and Weapon Augments

Make sure to apply Thalassian Phoenix Oil Icon Thalassian Phoenix Oil to your weapon for all content.

Slot Enchantment
Rings Enchant Ring - Eyes of the Eagle Icon Enchant Ring - Eyes of the Eagle or whatever your sim tells you to run. The practical difference is tiny.
Weapon Enchant Weapon - Jan'alai's Precision Icon Enchant Weapon - Jan'alai's Precision
Chest Enchant Chest - Mark of the Worldsoul Icon Enchant Chest - Mark of the Worldsoul
Head Enchant Helm - Empowered Rune of Avoidance Icon Enchant Helm - Empowered Rune of Avoidance as a default, but tertiary stat enchants tend to be personal choice. Use whichever calls to you.
Shoulders Enchant Shoulders - Amirdrassil's Grace Icon Enchant Shoulders - Amirdrassil's Grace as a default, but tertiary stat enchants tend to be personal choice. Use whichever calls to you.
Boots Enchant Boots - Lynx's Dexterity Icon Enchant Boots - Lynx's Dexterity as a default, but tertiary stat enchants tend to be personal choice. Use whichever calls to you.
Legs Sunfire Silk Spellthread Icon Sunfire Silk Spellthread

The deciding factor between Avoidance and Speed is simply if you feel like taking a minor amount less damage compared to moving faster at all times. You can make the argument for each in every scenario, even in extremely high-end content. Avoidance lets you survive larger hits; Speed gives you more leeway to run out of an AoE effect. You can pick whichever effect you prefer here.

For comparisons, full Avoidance enchants grant 4.54% of the stat, full Leech provides 3.52% of your damage as healing, and full Speed is 11.4% more movement speed.

Icy Veins - Before applying gems and enchants to your equipment, make sure to check whether
there might be an easy-to-get item that is better than the one you're currently wearing!

Optimal Consumables

In addition to enchants and improvements to your gear, making sure you come prepared with the right consumables to endgame content has a big impact on your performance.

3.1.

Flask

You should be drinking the Flask of the Shattered Sun Icon Flask of the Shattered Sun at all times.

3.2.

Potions

Potion of Recklessness Icon Potion of Recklessness is the best DPS potion to use.

You should also keep a stock of Silvermoon Health Potion Icon Silvermoon Health Potions to use when at low health, and if you have a Warlock in the group, grab their Healthstone Icon Healthstones and use them as well. Do not macro these together, they are best used separately!

3.3.

Food Buff

We recommend eating from the Harandar Celebration Icon Harandar Celebration or Silvermoon Parade Icon Silvermoon Parade when possible, and if no feast is provided for your group, use personal food (Royal Roast Icon Royal Roast or Impossibly Royal Roast Icon Impossibly Royal Roast).

3.4.

Augment Rune

In addition, if you can afford it, you should use Void-Touched Augment Rune Icon Void-Touched Augment Runes to increase your primary stat. Augment Runes are expensive, and disappear on death, so use them wisely!
