On this page, you will find out the optimal stat priority for your Brewmaster Monk. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations on how the stats interact with your specialization and gameplay. Our content is updated for World of Warcraft Patch 12.0.5.

1.

Brewmaster Monk Stat Priority

As a Brewmaster Monk, your stat priority stays simple for whatever you want to do. This includes whether you are playing as a Shado-Pan Brewmaster, or a Master of Harmony. Regardless of your choice, the following stat priorities will not change with your Hero Talents!

The stat priority below is specifically for playing defensively.

Item Level
Crit. Strike
Versatility
Mastery
Haste

Brewmaster stats are fairly close in defensive value. For this reason, you should wear the highest item-level gear you have available. Having more stats will often be more useful than having "better" stats for your defense. Jewelry slots are the main exception, as they do not have Agility or Armor on them. For these slots, you should focus on whatever provides the least amount of Haste when optimizing for defense.

If you're trying to push damage and surviving is less of an issue, the following altered stat priority will be what you want to follow.

Item Level
Crit. Strike
Mastery
Versatility
Haste

In-Depth Stat Breakdown

Critical Strike — 46 rating = 1%: increases your chance to deal double damage or healing on most of your spells.

Show Additional InteractionsHide Additional Interactions
  • Thanks to Celestial Fortune Icon Celestial Fortune, Critical Strike also gives you an increased chance for any healing received to heal for an additional 70%, and even increases the size of all friendly absorbs on you — such as Celestial Infusion Icon Celestial Infusion or Power Word: Shield Icon Power Word: Shield — by 70% of your Critical Strike chance.
  • The One Versus Many Icon One Versus Many talent for Shado-Pan Brewmasters increases the generation of Flurry Charge Icon Flurry Charges when achieving auto attack critical hits.
  • The Elusive Footwork Icon Elusive Footwork talent benefits from Critical Strikes with Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick.

Haste — 44 rating = 1%: improves your Energy regeneration rate, lets you auto attack faster, and reduces the cooldown of some abilities. Although this stat normally reduces your global cooldown as well, Brewmaster and other specializations that use Energy as a resource always have a global cooldown of 1 second regardless of Haste.

Show Haste-Reduced AbilitiesHide Haste-Reduced Abilities
  • Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash
  • Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew
  • Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind (cooldown and duration)
  • Flurry Strikes Icon Flurry Strikes (faster auto attacks)

Versatility — 54 rating = 1%: enhances all damage and healing you perform (including from gear effects like trinkets) and reduces all damage you take.

Mastery — 46 rating = 1%: Mastery: Elusive Brawler Icon Mastery: Elusive Brawler grants you a stacking buff that increases your chance to dodge every time you are attacked or cast Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick until you successfully dodge an attack; Mastery also passively increases your Attack Power.

Show Mastery MechanicsHide Mastery Mechanics
  • Brewmasters start with 7.4% Dodge Chance and 8% increased Attack Power from Mastery.
  • Your Dodge Chance can exceed 100%, though there is no benefit from doing so.
  • Enemy abilities usually cannot be dodged, but auto attacks are frequently your largest source of damage taken.
  • Attack Power only increases the damage and healing of your abilities, and does not include trinkets or gear effects.

Agility — 1 rating = 1 Attack Power: increases your ability strength, dodge chance, Stagger Icon Stagger percentage, and even your self-healing. This is your most important stat.

Stamina — 1 rating = 20 Health: improves your maximum health, providing you with greater survivability in general. Nearly every piece of gear you equip will include some amount of Stamina, making it a stat that is passively increased with item level.

Brewmasters and StaminaBrewmasters and Stamina

Brewmasters naturally have low Health compared to other tank specializations. However, more Stamina will increase the damage of your Touch of Death Icon Touch of Death since it is based on your max Health.

Armor is a stat you will acquire from most of your gear by default, with higher item-level pieces offering more. It has strong defensive value, but only works to reduce the damage received from Physical attacks.

Diminishing Returns on Stats

Every stat has a limit where they will begin to offer less increase per point gained, which are known as the points of diminishing return. Once you have reached these amounts, stats will become progressively less valuable and may fall behind other options. The current breakpoints are:

Stat 10% DR Rating 20% DR Rating 30% DR Rating
Mastery 1380 1840 2300
Critical Strike 1380 1840 2300
Haste 1320 1760 2200
Versatility 1620 2160 2700
